Equity and Diversity at Wheatfields Junior School

In 2021 Wheatfields Junior School formed it's own Equity and Diversity Group.

Our Mission Statement
‘Our Diversity and Equity group will strive to make everyone in our school community understand differences in people and respect and celebrate these differences so everyone feels safe and are free to express themselves. We will be allies to promote and support diversity and equity of all people including differences in race, religion, culture, neurodiversity, or gender because differences make us unique.’

Express Yourself Day

The EDI group were keen to have a dress up day where children could express themselves in any way they chose.  We had children come in dressed in their cultural dress, as their future selves, in different uniforms that represented their interests and even in pyjamas! It was lovely to see how children wanted themselves to be seen.

 Great Representations

Mrs Tearle and Mrs Laskar applied for and were selected to be a part of Herts for Learning Great Representation Programme, a project designed to capture and promote schools who were engaged in exciting race equality action to share with schools across Hertfordshire.  They had to write a case study of the work the school had done around including high quality diverse texts in the curriculum.  This was published in the Great Representation Volume 1 in July 2022.
