PSHE
Wheatfields Junior School use a scheme of work for the teaching PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) called Jigsaw from Year 3 through to Year 6. It brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development opportunities are mapped throughout. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world.
Across the school, every class will be focusing on the same ‘puzzle piece’ (theme) each half term, exploring areas and developing their skills at an age appropriate, level. These are:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
Within each of these aspects children also learn about British Values of Democracy; Rule of Law; Individual Liberty; Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs.
The ‘Changing Me’ and ‘Relationships’ puzzle pieces are also linked to the DFE RSE and Health curriculum requirements which became compulsory from September 2020. This can be accessed on the link below:
DFE Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Eduction
Wheatfields Junior School achieved the Herts For Learning Wellbeing Quality Mark as a result of our work to develop a quality PHSE curriculum, including a focus on the teaching of relationships and sex educations (RSE) in 2019. Our whole school Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) policy explains our approach to this important area of the children’s learning and has been developed in line with the guidance working with parents, staff and governors.
